Name: János Szórád
Membership since 2007
Position: guitar, mandolin, kobza, lead and background vocals

„At the dawn of old times… that’s when I started playing music, at the very beginning in the youth choir of the Great Church in Jászberény. The years went by, and in addition to the world of church music and choral masterpieces, I also got a taste of other genres of music like heavy metal. I founded my first own band when I was 18 years old. Two years later, we founded the Sárkánykönny Bard Companion (today: Sárkánykönny) which has been an important part of my life ever since.”

Eszter

Name: Eszter Molnár
Membership since 2009
Position: flute, recorder, artwork

„Ehm, what can I say, so I’ve been interested in music for a long time, I started with the recorder when I was 8. Later on, I switched to the flute when I was 11, and with more or less breaks, but I’ve been playing it ever since. For a long time I did not think that I would use this knowledge somewhere, until in 2009 I was accidentally found myself in Sárkánykönny. Together with them I discovered how fun is to playing in a band, brainstorming ideas together, role-playing, and the whole fantasy genre. I hope we’ll be playing music together for a long time, annoying orcs, rescuing princesses, stealing food from hobbits and picnicking on a dragon’s back, tucking the collected socks of three-quarter troll pirates under the helmets of knights, then fleeing quickly, etc.”

Isti

Isti

Name: István Józsa
Membership since 2007
Position: accordion, percussion, backing vocals

„I like good music and, of course, larps, so in 2007 I had a stray thought that these two could even be connected. This is how Sárkánykönny was born, which has traveled a long way since then, began.

I learned to play my instruments on my own.

The band is an important stage for my self-expression, as I can express the bard that lives in me, and I can also show off my artisan side: I go on stage with a self-made instrument and in clothes.”

Kinga

Name: Kinga Molnár

Membership since 2023

Position: jew’s harp, drums, lead vocals

„I was introduced to folk dancing and singing when I was 7 years old and it is a part of my life for nearly two decades, and it has also contributed to forming my personality. A dear friend of mine mentioned that the band Sárkánykönny was looking for a new singer, and I took the opportunity with great pleasure, as I had not yet been able to try myself in a band and outside of folk circles. The singing was the primary consideration, but the fantasy world itself is very close to my soul, so I thoroughly absorbed the atmosphere of the company. I am happy to work with such wonderful people (hopefully for many, many years to come).”

Dani

Name: Dániel Baranya
Membership since 2018
Position: guitar, mandolin, lead and backing vocals, road, recordings, mastering

„I’ve been in the school since the 3rd grade of elementary school. Around the 7th grade, I started playing the guitar self-taught and joined the school’s youth band. My first serious band was Fortissimo, where I played melodic heavy metal as lead guitarist. I was introduced to the fantasy world by my band Noamuthen in about 2017. I met Jani and Isti at the concert of my band, and we are friends ever since. At first, I was a road bass technician in the band, then I slowly drifted into medieval and fantasy music even more than before. Since then, this has culminated in Game of Thrones, The Witcher and Vikings, they have very good music. I was originally a bass guitarist in Sárkánykönny, when I had to play guitar, and once Jani put a mandolin in my hand saying „Take it home and learn how to play.” (Thanks again) I’ve been playing mandolin in the band ever since.”

Judit

Name: Judit Hajduné Varga
Membership since 2022
Position: cello, lead and backing vocals, harp
„I have been playing music since I was 5 years old, my first instrument was a rattle made of beer cans. After that I played the piano for 7 years, then played the flute and started playing the cello with the guidance of Gábor Gárdián. In addition, I sang in a Gregorian school between the ages of 13 and 18. I went to music school until I was 22, then I played in a church orchestra for 9 years (vocals, cello). I also had some timid forays towards the bass guitar, and then, after a short break, came Sárkánykönny. I play all kinds of instruments that are given to me. In the orchestra, I play cello and harp (I am self-taught), but I can play a few other instruments as well.

I first fell in love with fantasy mostly through music (Lord of the Rings, Witcher). It is important to me that the music of a film moves something in me.

I ensure the emotional stability of the orchestra: I offer the pálinka at rehearsals.”

Ádám

Name: Ádám Nyári

Membership since 2022

Position: drums, backing vocals

„I like chaos, noise, battles, bustle and music (Orcs are my favorites in Lord of the Rings). I came from far away, brought here from the world of punk-rock in 2022 by the cheerful and soft melody of the harp and flute, and the rest is history. I never thought that I would ever be able to play music in such a calm environment, nevertheless, as a drummer, I try to shake things up, although often I don’t have to, because everyone can party here! I play several instruments, so far I have managed to incorporate my drumming and singing skills into the life of the band, and the rest will take shape. I can be bribed with food and beer at any time, and I don’t tend to spare the integrity of the stage either. If you heard a loud burp, it was me!”

Évi

Name: Éva Arany

Membership since 2024

Position: violin, guitar, lead and backing vocals

„I started my music studies with classical violin and folk dance when I was a little, and not so later folk singing soon came into the picture. I put down the violin as a defiant teenager, but I continued to play music in any forms I could. Fortunately, after a couple of years off, I managed to get back to the violin, now in folk music. In 2020, I applied to the University of Szeged for a singing and music teaching course, and then I also completed a vocational training in singing. My passion for music can only be compared to my special relationship with the world of The Lord of the Rings, and since I have always been a dreamy person I travel a lot in my imagination to old times and fairytale worlds. And now I’m glad that we found each other with Sárkánykönny band so I can indulge in my two passions at the same time, and in good company.”
